Athletic teams for Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore compete in NCAA Division III, except for the Blue Jay Lacrosse Teams, which compete in NCAA Division I.
Since the first Hopkins men's lacrosse team was officially formed in 1888, JHU teams have won or shared a total of 38 national championships: 29 USILL/USILA titles between 1891 and 1971, and 9 NCAA Division I Championships since 1971, the most recent in 2007.
The United States Naval Academy at Annapolis has won or shared a total of 20 national lacrosse championships. The first national title won by Navy was the USILA title in 1914. For eight straight years, from 1960 through 1967, Navy either won outright (6 times) or shared the national championship.
Since 1971, the NCAA has held a Division I championship tournament for men's lacrosse. All of the championships have been won by seven schools:
Syracuse (10), Johns Hopkins (9), Princeton (6), North Carolina (4), Virginia (4), Cornell (3), and Maryland (2). Syracuse won the 2008 NCAA Division I championship.
